Feltmaking
In January and February 2010, the Urban Craft Club discovered the joys of making felt. Beginning with the 'wet-felting' technique, the group discovered how simple the process is to turn the intensely coloured, gloriously soft merino wool into exquisite pieces of felt. Blending a range of colours and adding a layer of more thoughtful design using wool and silk, the group created a huge diversity of mood pictures.
We then explored the techniques of 'dry-felting', which uses barbed needles which catch on the fibres of wool and 'felt' them together. This technique is excellent for creating 3 dimensional pieces, or for illustrating wet-felted work with finer details.
Finally, the group brought together its discoveries to create soft books and book covers which reflect the context of the library in which we are working.
